Yes, we have a bike section too!
RoADAR

We are a voluntary group of advanced driving and riding enthusiasts working in the area of North East London and South West Essex.

Our aim is to improve the level of road safety through driver and rider training along with encouragement to take the Advanced Driving Test administered by RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents).

We operate in a friendly and informal atmosphere because you will learn best whilst relaxed. Our sole aim is to reduce the carnage on our roads.

The term 'Dangerous Road' is purely an invention of the media. We believe there is no such thing. Roads can be poorly engineered and badly maintained. They can be subject to adverse weather but this isn't, in itself, dangerous. It is the road user that makes the highway environment dangerous.

We believe, it is through ever improving standards of drivers and motorcyclists, will the carnage on our roads be dramatically reduced.

If everyone used the roads responsibly (to the Highway Code) a road crash would be national headline news, just like those involving aircraft. Are we just too blasé?

In just one London borough, (Waltham Forest), road crashes, where people were killed or seriously injured, cost £37.3M in 2005; just one small borough and not including the non injury knocks!

Did the tree jump out then?
There we are, a nice straight road, no parked cars near by and a hundred metres up from a 'T' junction the car crashes into a tree at the side of the road. So what happened? The car had turned up from the junction and was accelerating up the road towards the major junction at the top.

Did the tree jump out?

No other cars involved and the passenger and driver looked well shaken but what are the other costs? Two Fire engines, two ambulances, two London Ambulance fast response cars plus three police cars. Then came the fine fellows from Redbridge Recycling Team, who whilst passing cleared up the debris. The doctors and nursing team at the local hospital. Yes, the list can go on and on.

The tree is as well as can be expected.

The driver was subsequently heard to say ‘the steering wheel had locked up’.
I wonder if there was also a problem with the brakes?
No doubt, all will be revealed once the police have examined the vehicle

OVERTAKING ~ HOW NOT TO DO IT!

  Overtake stage one
Now the limit point is quickly coming closer as the bend approaches and most
drivers would call it a day here and come back into the space beside them

  An overtake too far?
Not for this cavalier Vectra driver! (see the oncoming car, just coming into view).
Evidently they just missed each other, otherwise we would have a third photograph!
Has the Vectra driver learnt from their experience? We certainly hope so.

Don't just learn by a hit or miss method...

Join NET RoADA, or one of our sister groups and we can teach you how to undertake this most dangerous of manoeuvres, (and other aspects of driving too), with confidence.

and, someone who got it wrong on a bend...

Go it wrong on a bend!
Fast in slow, (well stationary actually), out...
you can't see the bends right deviation sign, it's under the car!
So remember; slow in and fast(er) out.

Parking is an important skill ~ will this driver cut the mustard?
