Standard
Designed for the bike rider that has never taken any formal advanced training.
The "standard" motorcyclist learns and develops advanced riding techniques over a six session course. At each session the course will concentrate on a key development technique and as the training progresses the rider integrates each technique into their riding plan.
*************************************Retest
Designed for the rider who has previously taken formal advanced training.
Achieving an advanced level only to allow the developed techniques to dissolve over time is pointless. RoSPA, unlike some, recognise this and require advanced riders to maintain standards monitored by way of a retest.
The "retest" motorcyclist has proven the ability to ride at an advanced level, time has passed and the need to demonstrate advanced riding techniques again has arrived.
A retest courses comprises two sessions normally close to the retest date.
*************************************Contribution
Unlike the car observer the bike observer uses his/her own bike to observe. With a typical observed run taking approximately two hours this can be quite expensive for the observer. In an effort to encourage and assist observers, a £5-00 donation to the observer on each observed run by each associate being observed is obligatory, please do not make the observer ask for the donation.
AttendancePlease ensure you arrive for an observed run in plenty of time, it is essential your motorcycle is road worthy with a full tank of petrol so the observed run is as productive as possible.
Training PublicationsThe system of motorcycle control is detailed in Road craft, considered to be the Police Rider's 'bible'.
As an Associate you will require a copy of Road craft and the Highway Code as a minimum to assist in your training, you are recommended to read these publications and put the theory into practice with your Observers assistance.
